My perfect sewing room would include one wall of shelving floor to ceiling -told hold my stash and always have it visable - so I would always know what I have - no more searching thru tubs of fabric---

I just love Snowmen~! This is wonderful. I am in fact building a craft room hopefully by then end of this 2009 summer. A must have is a wall table on one wall of the room. I want the table to run from one corner to the other along one wall of the room.Can you imagine a 16ft long table to work on!?! I also want a 4'x16'Peg Board above the 16ft table. Since I have a carpenter for my sole mate I can customize it the way I want which is so great. I told him I want a second wall with nothing but shelves from floor to ceiling. A third wall will be designated as my tech wall with my PC,Scanner,Printer and such so the room will actually double as my computer room as well. The fourth wall I want a drop down wall ironing board and wall hangers for holding fabric and ribbons in bulk rolls. All the time I am explaining to him what I want him to build I'm thinking he is going to say "Are you crazy" but instead he says oh that's easy no problem! So I can't wait until construction starts in June. Since he loves quilts I promised him the first 3 I make after the room is built. One for each of his favorite resting places. you have to have a bay window or french doors that lead to an outside balcony so you can enjoy the love God have created for us to see!

My husband has just converted a byre into a craft studio for me. I have found the folowing points really good in my room.
-Walk in cupboard with loads of storage and shelves.
-Large table - one side sewing machine, other side embellisher.
-Loads of plugs for electric equipment.
-Shelving for books.
-My husband put floor kitchen units most of the way round, so that I can store my material, fleeces for spinning, paper for cardmaking, and all associated equipment. The worktops are great for cutting, laying out etc.
-Sink.
-Most important equipment - kettle and mugs to make a cup of tea.

wow, that is so cute! If I won, I would have to pass it along to my quilty aunt who introduced me to gooseberry patch. If I could have a craft room, the most important thing would be lots of space, and lots of natural light. I dont even have a craft room, so I hust use my dining room table, which mean I have to pick up my projects before every meal and put everything away, kinda a pain!
My quilting room would have to have a stereo so I could listen to music as it inspires me. Also, wouldn't hurt to have a small frige for cold drinks - and a way to make warm drinks in the winter...

As someone who uses a dining room now, a dedicated sewing space is a dream. I'd like it large and full of light. Shelves with glass doors and some that were not glass. A large cutting table the perfect height for me. I large comfy chair by the window for knitting. A couple of dog beds! Wood floors, a design wall.....gosh I want a LoT!

I would DEFINITELY want to have one whole wall's length of a 3-4 foot wide table for my sewing/quilting, etc that could be folded up & locked into the wall, freeing up that space for other needs! Well, at least that's what I'm dreaming!

Dream studio, must have a design wall large enough to layout a queen size top, or even one entire wall so you could layout more than one quilt at a time. I pin a flannel back tablecloth to the curtains - does not work real well.
And don't forget a small table to leave treats for the quilt elves who come to quilt all your tops and do the binding while you sleep. If they ever show up, please send them my way.

My biggest problem, also, seems to be storage. I'd love a super sized walk-in closet with floor to ceiling shelves on which I could store my supplies and stash. Of course, it goes without saying that there must be a good ironing station and cutting station as well as room for my sewing machine. AND...if there was a nice, well-lit corner (with a VIEW, maybe??) in which to sit and hand-sew, that would be heaven!!! Not too much to ask, is it? LOL HOpe you went to my blog and found my Jan. 1 post and entered my giveaway, too.

Hi Beth! Love the snowflake quilting! First off, before I can tell you what I would want in a quilting studio - is i would LOVE a studio itself! I guess if I had to pick one thing I think a big wall with shelves for books and fabric.
My sewing studio would be much more spacious; I really need to have room for overnight guests; a futon would work or a day bed? I would have better storage solutions for the closet also. A way to pull things out without disorganizing the entire thing..know what I mean? LOL. Thanks for participating.
My perfect sewing room would have to be big enough for my kids to have a corner. I want to be able to sew with my family in the room. The room I have now is way off in a corner of the house and I feel so cut off from everyone. I want a room that my family mostly thinks of as a 'game/play/family' room, with a large corner for our crazy quilting mom! Of course I don't have a long-arm to fit in!

The one thing I'd have to have in my sewing studio would be a nice island with lots of space around it, and storage under it. It would have to be almost like a kitchen island, so that I don't have to bend to far over it to cut fabric lay projects out. :)

An absolute must-have would be a magnet strip to hold scissors! I am constantly misplacing my scissors. If I had a magnet strip at eye level, I'd know that they were some place safe and easily accessible.

Oh my gosh, that table runner is awesome! I HAVE to have shelving for my fabric that allows me to be able to see it everyday. Not only do I love seeing my stash, if I can't see it I forget what I have and tend to leave out fabrics that would be perfect simply because I forget what I have. I have a cabinet with a glass front where mine is sorted by type and color but I could use a LOT more space because I can't see it all, some of it is still hidden away in the closet!

Ooooh, my dream...to design my own sewing studio. The one thing it would HAVE to have is a waist high counter type cutting area. The pain in my back when I cut a quilt is awful!!!!
Iwould love a center islane ig enouth to hold a queen size quilt for pinning/basting. I'm too old andstiff to be crawling on the floor and pushing 8" tables togeher at church is nice, but kills my back.

I got a new sewing room when we moved two years ago. I wanted my computer in my sewing room (it wasn't before we moved), plus a comfy chair, my sewing machine and great shelving! I love my room and my grandson thinks it's "cozy". :-) Lovely tablerunner, nice quilting!!!
If I could choose one thing that I believe is important in a quilt studio, it would be an inset quilt table where my machine top is even with the table top. Secondly would be a Big Board for my ironing board. Have a Blessed and Happy New Year!

Oh how wonderful to have found such a great blog site. What I would like in a dream quilting studio is Brad Pasley in just jeans (hopefuly he can sew)
First of all, you will need twice as much room as you think you will need. You will need shelves to the ceiling, lots of lights and the best windows you can afford to keep out the ND wind and cold! Plenty of see thru containers and units to put them in.
Flooring would be great if it had floor heat and laminate flooring to sweep and you will have the warmest little toes!
AND last but not least, have a friend help you organize it all when you are ready to move in!
A huge pegboard for mounting tools and small items in containers.

If I were to design a new sewing room I'd need a nice long table for cutting, a good sized closet for fabric storage, a design wall, a peg board for ruler storage, a tv, and the sewing machine table dad made me. :o)

Hi! and Happy New Year! What a cute giveaway! The first thing in a new quilting room for me would be an ironing space (the right height for me) close to the sewing machine, and hopefully with storage underneath it. I am always fighting the ironing board, or the small one on my cutting table.
a custom fit work/cutting table, seeing as i am only five feet tall and shrinking, this is a MUST for me. P.S. I have some of the same fabric and the snowmen told me they wanted to be a handbag and some dishtowels. ya know i probaly have enough to make coaster or napkins if I won the table runner. hint hint

If I were designing a sewing space from scratch- there would be a few things I would want- good lighting, a fair amount of storage that could be closed so that the fabric would not get light damage, a table that was the right height for sewing, a moveable chair and a place for a design wall.
Your table runner is lovely and perhaps I will be your lucky winner- if not someone else will be fortunate to receive it as a prize.

Well, I'm working on my sewing room right now, and I would have to say that it's either the true "basics" of good lighting, heat and a/c- or -conveniently (not huge) sized storage for fabrics!

Once in a while I run into some elderly (but very young at heart) ladies who are part of our local thimble club. I always enjoy listening to all of them chatting and laughing. Very friendly, happy, and content. I hope I can be like that if, God willing, I get to be their age!
So, my ideal sewing room would come filled with sweet mentor-like ladies ready to chat; from whom I could soak up lots of wisdom, and maybe even a few sewing/quilting/crafting tips!

My studio would have to have good quilting furniture, especially a cabinet where my sewing machine sewing surface would be flush with the tabletop. Big windows for good natural light.

I am going to be redoing mine soon and what I am going to include is 1 wall of shelves to hold all fabric! Tired of digging through bins, I would also like a big board instead of my dinky ironing board, and a corner designated for my painting supplies and easel :-) Hmmm, and some cubbies for yarn...
